Running down central Eastern France with Chablis in the North, then down to Dijon, Beaune and Macon in the South, this long sliver of land is widely regarded as a vinous and gastro-paradise. White Chardonnay and red Pinot Noir grapes find their optimum growing conditions in the three main regions, Chablis, Cotes de Nuits, Cotes de Beaune and the Cotes Chalonaise. With nearly 29,000 hectares under vine (excluding Beaujolais), there's something for everyone here from the chalky whites of the North to the powerful "fist in velvet glove" styles found in the Cotes de Nuits.
