Inside Bordeaux Jane Anson - 21 Jan 22
I'm not surprised by the success by this particular estate in 2003, but it is still a real pleasure to taste a wine from this vintage that remains full of plump ripe fruits and sappy tannins. It shows the heat of the vintage in terms of the exoticism of the caramelised fruits, which are fig, prune and blackberry tatin in character, along with bacon, turmeric and clove spice notes. It has a different feel than the others in the tasting, but it retains a freshess and is in no hurry to be drunk up. Part of the warm vintages series within this vertical.

Vinous Antonio Galloni - 01 May 20
The 2003 Pavie-Macquin is marked by elevated ripeness and aggressive tannins. There is plenty of initial depth and intensity, but it's hard to get past the candied fruit profile and the other signatures of the torrid growing season.

Bordeaux

Red Bordeaux, globally renowned, is crafted in France’s Bordeaux region from grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. These full-bodied wines feature dark fruit flavours, earthy and spicy notes, and often benefit from ageing. Top producers include Château Margaux, Château Latour, and Château Lafite Rothschild. White Bordeaux, made from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, offers styles from crisp to rich, with citrus and tropical notes. Sweet Bordeaux wines, like Sauternes, are famed for their rich sweetness and flavours of apricot and honey, with Château d’Yquem as a leading producer.
