Vinous Stephen Tanzer - 01 Jul 03
(from 70-to-100-year-old vines) Saturated bright medium ruby. Cassis and mineral aromas along with pungent new French oak scents of espresso and bitter chocolate. Sweet, thick and superconcentrated, with an impressively chewy, layered texture; very sappy but still a bit youthfully clenched. Still hugely tannic, even a bit aggressive, on the end, but here the oak seems to be in harmony with the wine's powerful fruit, suggesting that all this wine needs is time in bottle.
