Vinous Neal Martin - 01 Jul 18
The 1999 d'Issan has a perfumed bouquet with wilted violet petals infusing the redcurrant and cranberry scents. It is strict but detailed even if not the most complex bouquet you will encounter in this vintage. The palate is medium-bodied with a pleasant and supple opening. A mixture of red and black fruit here laced with tobacco, graphite and sous-bois, the 1999 has a linearity that appeals at 19-years of age. It finishes in convincing style considering the growing season. I suspect that it will not improve with further bottle age but should hold steady for another decade. Tasted at the d’Issan vertical held at the property.
