Vinous Neal Martin - 01 Apr 18
The 2001 La Lagune has more freshness and vitality on the nose compared to the 2000 vintage. It offers unfurling wild strawberry and orange pith notes neatly interwoven into tobacco and graphite aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with a soft opening. It is quite plush in the mouth, surprisingly so for a 2001 Left Bank, with candied redcurrants and strawberry pastille that frame a rounded, if slightly simple, easy-going finish. Drink this now and over the next decade. Tasted at the La Lagune vertical at the château.

Bordeaux

Red Bordeaux, globally renowned, is crafted in France’s Bordeaux region from grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. These full-bodied wines feature dark fruit flavours, earthy and spicy notes, and often benefit from ageing. Top producers include Château Margaux, Château Latour, and Château Lafite Rothschild. White Bordeaux, made from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, offers styles from crisp to rich, with citrus and tropical notes. Sweet Bordeaux wines, like Sauternes, are famed for their rich sweetness and flavours of apricot and honey, with Château d’Yquem as a leading producer.
