Vinous Antonio Galloni - 01 Jun 16
A powerful, searing wine, the 2004 Barbaresco Montefico shows the more masculine, structured side of Barbaresco. Next to the Asili, the Montefico is powerful, dark and brooding. Lavender, sage, charcoal, smoke and black stone fruits are some of the signatures in this intense, massively tannic Barbaresco. Intensely mentholated, balsamic notes are laced into the huge, building finish. There is no question the 2004 needs time. The question is: how much? This is a fabulous wine for readers who want to understand what Montefico is all about.

Barbaresco Vineyard Fine Wine

Barbaresco

Barbaresco, a prestigious red from Piedmont, Italy, is made exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes. Known as the “Queen” of Piedmont wines, it offers elegance and aromatic complexity with flavours of red cherries, raspberries, roses, and earthy notes. Its well-integrated tannins and vibrant acidity enhance its ageing potential. With calcareous soils and favourable microclimates, Barbaresco is a more approachable alternative to Barolo. Top producers include Gaja, Produttori del Barbaresco, Bruno Giacosa, and Pio Cesare, who exemplify its refined character.
