Tasting Notes

Vinous Josh Raynolds - 01 Apr 17
(from vines more than 60 years old; aged in barriques, 80 percent of them new, for 15 months) Bright violet. Primary cherry, cassis, pungent flowers and olive on the highly perfumed nose, accompanied by hints of cracked pepper and licorice in the background. Sweet and seamless in texture, offering concentrated black and blue fruit and spicecake flavors that unfold slowly with aeration. In a powerful but lively style and extremely youthful now. Aeration brings up vanilla and floral pastille qualities that carry through the very long, velvety, subtly tannic finish, which leaves behind a sweet dark berry note.

Rhone Vineyard Valley of Fine Wine

Rhone

The Rhône Valley in southeastern France is famed for its diverse wines. It's divided into Northern Rhône, known for Syrah-based reds and white wines from Viognier, Marsanne, and Roussanne, and Southern Rhône, which features blends like Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre. Northern Rhône wines, such as Côte-Rôtie and Hermitage, are intense and complex, while Southern Rhône's Châteauneuf-du-Pape is known for powerful, spicy reds. Top producers include E. Guigal, Domaine du Pegau, and Domaine Jean-Louis Chave, exemplifying the region's rich winemaking tradition.
