The NV Brut Cuvée de Réserve Grand Cru (base 2021) is a tasty entry-level offering from Pierre Péters. Floral overtones meld into a core of orchard fruit, lemon confit, white flowers and mint. All the elements are so nicely balanced. There's a very pleasant exuberance here. Floral top notes reappear on the close, extending the finish effortlessly. This release is 50% 2021 and 50% the previous year's blend. Dosage is 5.7 grams per liter. Disgorged: July 2024.

The NV Cuvee de Reserve Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Brut is 100% Chardonnay, disgorged in October 2021. Pale golden in color, it offers classic notes of brioche, toasted almonds, and honeysuckle over a core of baked apples and pear tart, plus a touch of chalk dust. The very dry palate is well-balanced and hard to fault, with a lively line of freshness defining the spicy apple and pear layers, supported by frothy bubbles, finishing yeasty/savory. This ticks all the boxes, if a little uninspiring.

Champagne

Champagne, exclusively from France's Champagne region, is synonymous with luxury and celebration. Made primarily from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier, it undergoes secondary fermentation in the bottle, creating its signature bubbles. Flavours range from crisp green apple and citrus to rich, toasty notes of nuts and honey. Yeast contact in the bottle contributes to pastry and brioche notes, which are a key part of good quality Champagne. Top producers include Moët & Chandon, Veuve Clicquot, and Krug.
