Vinous Neal Martin - 12 Dec 23
The 2019 Meursault Genevrières 1er Cru shows a slight reduction on the nose (like a couple of others) underneath crisp, delineated citrus fruit, crushed stone and blackcurrant leaf. The palate is well-balanced with a slightly viscous opening, lightly spiced with ginger and lemongrass. It has a gentle grip with a saline, Charmes-like finish that lingers. However, it does seem to fade and lose just a bit of definition with time. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

Meursault Fine Wine

Meursault

Meursault, in Burgundy's Côte de Beaune, is famed for its rich and complex Chardonnay wines. Known for opulent textures, vibrant acidity, and nutty, buttery flavours with notes of stone fruits, citrus, and hazelnuts, these wines also feature a subtle minerality and creamy mouthfeel from limestone-rich soils and oak ageing. Though lacking Grand Cru vineyards, Premier Cru sites like Les Perrières, Les Genevrières, and Les Charmes produce exceptional wines. Top producers include Domaine des Comtes Lafon, Domaine Roulot, and Domaine Coche-Dury, all celebrated for showcasing Meursault's unique terroir.
