The Wine Independent Susan Hulme - 13 Jul 22
This 2018 Barolo Cascina Nuova from Elvio Cogno has aromas of spice, minerals, mint and fresh leather. It is medium-full bodied with a gentle texture, lingering, fine, savory tannins and a warm, spicy, red fruit finish. There is a leaner, slight green flavor in the middle and a vibrant acidity which feels very much like the stamp of the 2018 vintage together with some interesting flavors of dried orange peel and fresh leather. This is a vibrant and lively style of Barolo. It comes from the Cascina Nuova vineyard in Ravera; the vines are on average 12 years old and are planted at 380 m asl facing south. Given that the vines are still young I am keen to see how later vintages of this wine will develop.

Vinous Antonio Galloni - 10 Jan 23
The 2018 Barolo Cascina Nuova is elegant, aromatically expressive and also ready to drink. Sweet red cherry, cedar, mint, tobacco and worn-in leather add layers of nuance. There's a fair bit of Ravera tannin that gives the wine shape, but all the elements are nicely balanced. Even so, I would not push my luck on aging with this vintage.
