Vinous Neal Martin - 01 Oct 19
The 2016 Volnay Les Santenots 1er Cru has a lovely, harmonious bouquet with raspberry, blackcurrant and touches of crushed stone. More sous-bois aromas develop with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit laced with cassis. I admire the acidity that counterbalances the intense fruit concentration, not to mention the satin-like finish. Commercial in many ways, though I think it will age nicely. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting in Burgundy.

Volnay Fine Wine

Volnay

Volnay, in Burgundy's Côte de Beaune, is famed for elegant, refined Pinot Noir wines with silky texture, aromatic complexity, and graceful ageing potential. These wines feature delicate flavours of red berries, like cherry and raspberry, with floral notes and subtle earth and spice. Though lacking Grand Cru vineyards, Premier Crus like Les Caillerets and Clos des Chênes are highly esteemed for their finesse and depth. Top producers include Domaine Michel Lafarge, Domaine Marquis d'Angerville, and Domaine Hubert de Montille, all dedicated to expressing Volnay's unique terroir.
