Vinous Antonio Galloni - 27 Feb 24
The 2021 Cantemerle is floral, lifted and very pretty. Crushed flowers, red-toned fruit, spice, mocha and licorice take shape in a wine that impresses with its delineated, persistent personality. All the elements are nicely balanced. There is a bit of tightness on the finish, but overall, this is nicely done.

The 2021 Cantemerle has a medium to deep garnet-purple color. It flies out of the glass with notes of juicy raspberries and Morello cherries, leading to wafts of cinnamon and roses. Medium-bodied, the palate is elegant and refreshing, with minerally sparks to the red berry flavors and a soft-textured finish.

Waves of brambled fruits and soft spices, cumin, rosebud and tomato leaf, not huge concentration here but mouthwatering and delicate. 50hl/h yield, generous for the vintage, 40% new oak. Director Laure Canu's first vintage, coming over from Château Angélus and working alongside Philippe Dambrine for first few months. 37hl/h yield after frost.

Bordeaux

Red Bordeaux, globally renowned, is crafted in France’s Bordeaux region from grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. These full-bodied wines feature dark fruit flavours, earthy and spicy notes, and often benefit from ageing. Top producers include Château Margaux, Château Latour, and Château Lafite Rothschild. White Bordeaux, made from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, offers styles from crisp to rich, with citrus and tropical notes. Sweet Bordeaux wines, like Sauternes, are famed for their rich sweetness and flavours of apricot and honey, with Château d’Yquem as a leading producer.
