Champagne
Only two hours east of Paris, the Champagne region is made up of three smaller growing areas – Côte des Blancs, Vallée de la Marne and Montagne de Reims. The headline grabbing Grand Marque houses such as Krug, Dom Perignon and Laurent Perrier, amongst others, may make Champagne look to be a simple region with little variation, but the emergence of smaller artisan growers over the last decade has put paid to that theory. Favouring single vineyard expressions and letting the terroir talk, as opposed to the house style favoured by the Grand Marques there feels to be a new generation coming through and most certainly it’s an exciting time for Champagne drinkers, as the variety and quality across the board gets better.
