Vinous Neal Martin - 01 Mar 18
The 2014 Dragon de Quintus has a slightly gawky nose, missing the cohesion of its peers at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, classic in style with plenty of sous-bois and tobacco notes, gaining some flesh and fruité towards the more cohesive finish. Give this Deuxième Vin another year. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

The 2014 Le Dragon de Quintus is medium to deep garnet-brick in color. It is a little broody to start off, with sluggish evolved leather and cigar box notes followed by hints of chargrill, fried herbs, and dried cranberries with a waft of prunes. The full-bodied palate is chewy, tart, and warm, finishing rugged and clumsy.

Bordeaux

Red Bordeaux, globally renowned, is crafted in France’s Bordeaux region from grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. These full-bodied wines feature dark fruit flavours, earthy and spicy notes, and often benefit from ageing. Top producers include Château Margaux, Château Latour, and Château Lafite Rothschild. White Bordeaux, made from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, offers styles from crisp to rich, with citrus and tropical notes. Sweet Bordeaux wines, like Sauternes, are famed for their rich sweetness and flavours of apricot and honey, with Château d’Yquem as a leading producer.
