Medium to deep garnet in color, the 2013 Quintus features notes of sauteed herbs, damp soil, and pencil lead, leading to a core of redcurrant jelly and dried figs, plus a touch of lavender. Medium-bodied, the palate has a chewy texture and racy backbone supporting the delicate red fruit and herbal flavors, finishing with a refreshing lift.

The 2013 Quintus has a slightly stalky nose and moderate definition, with dark berry fruit, tobacco and cola. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins. It's a little dry and lacks some depth on the finish. But it is balanced with no signs of greenness. It's Pomerol-like in style. Drink now. Tasted at Bordeaux Index's 10-Year On tasting.

Pale ruby red in colour, smoke and marzipan, undergrowth, tobacco leaf, a murmur of autumnal fruit but not really enough to get hold of at this point. I would drink this up over the next few years.

Bordeaux

Red Bordeaux, globally renowned, is crafted in France’s Bordeaux region from grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. These full-bodied wines feature dark fruit flavours, earthy and spicy notes, and often benefit from ageing. Top producers include Château Margaux, Château Latour, and Château Lafite Rothschild. White Bordeaux, made from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, offers styles from crisp to rich, with citrus and tropical notes. Sweet Bordeaux wines, like Sauternes, are famed for their rich sweetness and flavours of apricot and honey, with Château d’Yquem as a leading producer.
