Tasting Notes

Vinous Antonio Galloni - 01 Oct 20
The 2016 Barbaresco is a knock-out. And it is, for lack of a better word, the entry-level wine in this range. Freshly cut flowers, mint, cinnamon, red berry fruit and orange zest are some of the notes that lift from a Barbaresco that is all class. There is plenty of structure, but the purity of the fruit is so striking that the tannins are not especially noticeable. The 2016 is a stunning wine, that’s all there is to it.

Barbaresco Vineyard Fine Wine

Barbaresco

Barbaresco, a prestigious red from Piedmont, Italy, is made exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes. Known as the “Queen” of Piedmont wines, it offers elegance and aromatic complexity with flavours of red cherries, raspberries, roses, and earthy notes. Its well-integrated tannins and vibrant acidity enhance its ageing potential. With calcareous soils and favourable microclimates, Barbaresco is a more approachable alternative to Barolo. Top producers include Gaja, Produttori del Barbaresco, Bruno Giacosa, and Pio Cesare, who exemplify its refined character.
