Dark red-ruby. Reticent but lively aromas of dark berries and black cherry--and not showing the liqueur-like quality it displayed from barrel in late 2016. Tightly wound and savory, showing excellent delineation to its nuanced flavors of redcurrant, tobacco, iron, fresh blood, spices and crushed rock. This doesn't show the typical thickness of 2015 in spite of the tiny production here but the wine stands out for its intensity and definition. Finishes firmly tannic but not dry. Quite aromatic in the mouth but this wine may already be in the process of shutting down in bottle.
