The 2018s from Virgile Lignier-Michelot are sublime wines and the domaine as a whole, a perennial Seckford favourite.
Relentless work in the vineyards and cellar have paid off and his 2018s display a wonderful, soft-sweet freshness for the vintage. The wines are deep in colour, with structure and bright Pinot purity. The majority are produced using whole clusters, with 30% new oak.
A top pick and brilliant value is the Morey St Denis En La Rue de Vergy, the vineyards has 50 year old vine that sit just above Clos de Tart.

Only the upper part of this vineyard is classified as Premier Cru, which is where Virgile’s vines are to be found. A deep core of concentrated red fruits with fine tannin grip. Wonderfully fresh with that intoxicating Pinot perfumed aroma. Superb. Superb.

One of the best placed Morey vineyards, sitting just below Clos de la Roche (Virgile refers to this as ‘baby Clos de la Roche’). Whole bunch. From a mix of clay and limestone, this displays elegance, combined with light and pure red fruit. Fine tannins with a lip-smacking tangy finish.
