Clos des Papes, Chateauneuf-du-Pape

Completing the trilogy of the first seen Chateauneuf-du-Pape releases, I am delighted to advise that Clos des Papes has joined Vieux Telegraphe & Beaucastel in offering its 2019 vintage:

un très grand millésime” - Vincent Avril

"The 2019s will be a step up over the 2018s and offer more depth, concentration, and richness, showing considerable purity of fruit and elegance.
2019 is a beautiful, possibly exceptional, vintage.
"

Clos des Papes 2019 (rouge)

£354 per 6 bottles in bond
£363 per 3 magnums ib
£265 per 300cl ib

"Vincent Avril is delighted by the 2019 wines at Clos des Papes, comparing his 2019 red wine with the great vintages of 2016 and 2010. It is extremely balanced: powerful, certainly, but characterised by finesse and silkiness. The yield was ‘normal’ for Clos des Papes, although this is clearly much lower than that which is authorised by the appellation. Vincent makes clear that the only word that matters to him is ‘qualité’ and stresses that Clos des Papes always exhibits 100% of what nature has given the vines."

Clos des Papes 2019 (blanc)

£276 per 6 bottles in bond

"Looking first at the white, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Blanc from the talented Vincent Avril sports a light gold colour to go with a beautifully complex, classic bouquet of lemon curd, exotic flowers, sappy green herbs, and crushed stone-like, salty minerality. These all carry to a medium to full-bodied white that has beautiful depth of fruit on the mid-palate of bright spine of acidity, and a fabulous finish. This cuvée has a long track record of aging gracefully and it can be drunk with considerable pleasure today or cellared for 10 to 15 years if you’re so inclined. Drink to 2035."

Ch de Beaucastel, Chateauneuf-du-Pape

Seckford is delighted to offer the release of Chateau de Beaucastel 2019 (rouge & blanc), the vintage continuing the run of form in 1979, '89, '99, 2009 and now 2019!

"The 2019s will be a step up over the 2018s and offer more depth, concentration, and richness, showing considerable purity of fruit and elegance.
2019 is a beautiful, possibly exceptional, vintage for the Southern Rhone."

Chateau de Beaucastel 2019 (rouge)

£270 per 6 bottles in bond
£550 per 6 magnums ib
£275 per 12 halves ib
£200 per 300cl ib

"This wine shows a persistent and fairly deep colour. The nose is pure and very elegant on wild black fruit, spices, floral notes with great freshness. On the palate, the wines reveal rich aromas of blueberries and blackcurrent jam with silky and delicate tannins. The finish is powerful and harmonious, with a very good length. An impressive wine full of complexity. A great vintage of Beaucastel." (Perrin)

Chateau de Beaucastel 2019 (blanc)

£270 per 6 bottles in bond

"The 2019 whites from this estate showed beautifully, and these are world-class wines that deserve a place in every wine lover’s cellar. The general rule with the whites is to enjoy bottles on release and over the following 5-7 years, then they are best forgotten until around age 20.
The 2019 reveals a lighter gold hue as well as a beautiful and classic bouquet of honeyed citrus, quince, white flowers, bees wax, and a touch of flinty minerality. Playing in the medium to full-bodied end of the spectrum, it has flawless balance, nicely integrated acidity, and a great, minerally finish. You can enjoy bottles today with a decant; or cellar for two to three decades, if you’re so inclined."

Gigondas 2019 Domaine du Clos des Tourelles

£200 per 6 bottles in bond
£400 per 6 magnums ib

"Domaine du Clos des Tourelles is located below the village of Gigondas. Its historic and emblematic 3-hectare vineyard of very old Grenache on limestone soils with a marly-sandy matrix, is the last Clos still existing in Gigondas.

The 2019 vintage has a deep ruby colour. The nose is red fruit, violets, liquorice, and mineral touches. Deep and complex on the palate with characteristic aromas of violet and liquorice, great power and well balanced. The 2019 vintage is of great finesse." (Perrin)

Vieux Telegraphe & Rhone 2019
From Famille Brunier

Seckford is delighted to offer the release of the Brunier family 2019 wines:

  • Vieux Telegraphe, Chateauneuf du Pape
  • Piedlong, Chateauneuf du Pape
  • Gigondas Les Racines, Domaine Les Pallieres

"The 2019s will be a step up over the 2018s and offer more depth, concentration, and richness, showing considerable purity of fruit and elegance. 2019 appears to be a beautiful, possibly exceptional, vintage for the Southern Rhone."

Vieux Telegraphe 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape

£220 per 6 bottles ib

£225 per 3 magnums ib

£230 per 12 halves ib

£165 per 300cl ib

"Looking at the flagship 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape from this benchmark estate, it reveals a denser ruby/purple colour as well as stunning notes of smoked red and black fruits, crushed rocks, peppery garrigue, and truffly earth. Hitting the palate with full-bodied richness, it stays tight and compact on the palate, with terrific mid-palate depth, a focused, structured mouthfeel, and one great finish. This is a brilliant Châteauneuf du Pape from the Brunier family that’s going to benefit from upwards of 5-7 years of bottle age and have 30+ years of overall longevity."

Vieux Telegraphe Blanc 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape

£200 per 6 bottles ib

"One of my favourite whites from the south of France is Daniel Brunier’s Châteauneuf du Pape Blanc and his 2019 is another stunning effort. Always a blend of Clairette, Roussanne, Grenache Blanc, and Bourboulenc brought up in foudre, this beauty boasts an exotic nose of honeyed peach, quince, crushed citrus, and salty minerality, all with a floral edge. Medium to full-bodied on the palate with flawless balance and beautifully integrated acidity, enjoy this concentrated white anytime over the coming 15-20 years."

95 points (Jeb Dunnuck)

Piedlong 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape

£145 per 6 bottles ib

£150 per 3 magnums ib

£115 per 300cl ib

"Coming from the plateau in the centre of the appellation and 90% Grenache and 10% Mourvèdre, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Piedlong boasts a more ruby/translucent colour to go with perfumed notes of wild strawberries, loamy soil, herbes de Provence, and peppery garrigue. Playing in the medium to full-bodied end of the spectrum, it has terrific overall balance, some grainy, present tannins, and a great finish. This is another terrific 2019 in the making that’s going to benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and keep for 10-15 years."

93-95 points (Jeb Dunnuck)

Gigondas Les Racines 2019 Domaine Les Pallieres

£110 per 6 bottles ib

£115 per 3 magnums ib

"More black currants, blueberries, peppery garrigue, liquorice and mineral notes define the 2019 Gigondas Les Racines and it’s another beautifully rich, layered, textured barrel sample from this estate that’s going to benefit from short term cellaring."

92/94+ points (Jeb Dunnuck)
