For a domaine with no less than six Grand Cru vineyards in their holdings, Domaine Coquard Loison Fleurot flies very firmly under the radar.
Winemaker Thomas Callodot, together with Claire Fleurot are relatively new to the market, historically the wines were sold to negociants. They only started domaine bottling in 2009/2010, but since then, they have rapidly built a very strong reputation as a domaine making classically crafted low intervention Burgundy. The wines brim with red fruit and possess superb structure - they have real vim and vigour.
Comparisons are being drawn to neighbours Emmanuel Rouget & Mugneret Gibourg, very high praise indeed.
We are delighted to offer a comprehensive parcel of recent vintages. These are all stored at Seckford Wines, under bond.
2015 Clos de la Roche, Grand Cru - £975 per 6 IB
95 Points (Neal Martin, Vinous Media)
The 2015 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru has abundant red fruit on a pure, seductive nose whose aromas coil themselves around your senses and whisk you all the way to Burgundy. The precise, medium-bodied palate offers sappy red berry fruit, perfectly judged acidity and a pure, rounded, caressing finish that might just benefit from a little more tension. Maybe that lack of bite knocks off a point or two, but otherwise, impressive and delicious. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.
2016 Echezeaux, Grand Cru - £1195 per 6 IB
94-96 Points (Wine Advocate)
The 2016 Echézeaux Grand Cru comes from 1.33 hectares of vines including Les Treux, which Thomas normally bottles as a separate cuvée. Matured in 50% new oak, it offers vibrant brambly red and black fruit on the nose, beautifully delineated with the oak seamlessly embroidered into the fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a little spicier than its peers but extremely well focused and conveying outstanding texture on the finish. This is simply one of the best Echézeauxs that I have tasted in this vintage.
2016 Clos de la Roche, Grand Cru - £1195 per 6 IB
96 Points (Neal Martin, Vinous Media)
The 2016 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru has a harmonious and detailed bouquet: redcurrant, cranberry and wild strawberry aromas with an underlying mineralité. It feels very controlled at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin. This is one of the most pliant Clos de la Roche 2016s that I have tasted, fleshy and caressing in texture, almost streamlined towards the finish that boasts impressive mineral tension and a persistent aftertaste. What an exciting proposition from this Gilly based producer that has burst onto the scene. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting.
2017 Clos St Denis, Grand Cru - £215 per bottle
93-95 Points (Neal Martin, Vinous Media)
The 2017 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru comes from vines planted in 1936, and was raised in three barrels this year (two of them new.) It has a clean, precise tightly wound bouquet of blackberry, raspberry preserve, pressed iris and subtle undergrowth, almost peaty aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin, quite masculine compared to the Clos de la Roche, and shows firmer grip and persistence on the chalky finish. Very fine and quite cerebral.
