Springbank - Limited Editions Released

Single Malt Whisky

Seckford Wines have long championed the superb and underrated whiskies of Springbank in Campbeltown.

Campbeltown stands close to the southern end of the Kintyre Peninsula and was once the self-proclaimed "Whisky City" boasting 24 distilleries between 1823 & 1835.

One of the few remaining distilleries, and still privately owned, Springbank is unique in that 100% of the production process is on one site.  All its own barley is malted using local peat, then distilled, aged and bottled in-house.

Widely regarded amongst whisky fans as still flying slightly below the radar in terms of high quality versus reasonable price we can’t recommend Springbank enough and advise you to try a few bottles, before those in the know snap them all up.

"...there is no more enigmatic distillery than Springbank.  Independent, family-owned, a Campbeltown distillery no less, its whiskies are harder to come by; the releases are few and far between; and yet – and it’s a big yet – hardcore whisky lovers adore it.  Fans speak of Springbank with reverence and dedication reserved for very few distilleries, and for those who’ve not discovered the distillery or been enchanted by its spirit, it’s all a bit of a mystery.”  Whiskyandwisdom.com

Springbank's unique house style is summed up here by whisky guru Michael Jackson:

"...medium-peated with touches of sweet citrus fruits, allied to a briny note and a lightly oily texture.”

Also, Sean Murphy of Scotsman Food & Drink adds...

...it is absolutely delicious capturing sweetness, saltiness, oak and peat. Springbank is the epitome a whisky with a sense of people and place.”

We are excited to release a very special offer of three limited editions alongside the five core drams from the Springbank range.

The spirit was matured in 77% bourbon casks, 20% sherry casks and 3% port casks. Natural colour and non-chill-filtered. Only 9000 bottles were made available.

Nose: Sweet and slightly spicy with hints of honey, demerara sugar, cinnamon and vanilla. Light peat smoke and a dusty characteristic reminiscent of freshly milled barley

Palate: Tropical and soft fruit sweetness. Ripe pineapple, mango and juicy peaches are complimented by a building peat smoke. Green tea and a coppery tone follow.

Finish: Creamy, buttery mouthfeel with light integrated peat smoke and a coastal salty influence.

Springbank have kept things simple with this release by maturing their coastal style whisky in ex-bourbon casks from America. Limited to only 9,000 bottles worldwide.

Nose: This unique Campbeltown Malt starts off with cream, vanilla extract and yogurt. Salted popcorn, toffee and marshmallows follow the ever present creaminess. American cream soda, sugar doughnuts, with a heathery influence.

Palate: Yogurt and thick cream continue from the nose with an introduction of honey, syrup and liquorice. Gentle notes of sweet apples, almonds and dried bananas. A light dusting of icing sugar and lemon zest.

Finish: A touch of smoke and dry peat builds with a gentle sea breeze from Campbeltown Loch. Briny and light mineral flavours complete this excellent dram.

15 YO Rum Wood

£108

(51% 2019 release)

Not a finish, this is a Springbank distilled in 2003 and then matured for all its life in fresh rum barrels. Limited to only 9000 bottles.

Nose: This is a sweet tropical dram with coconut, pineapple and banana aromas. The sweetness continues with toasted marshmallows and sticky toffee pudding but is balanced with a hint of peat.

Palate: The sweetness transfers onto the palate. There’s the velvety smooth richness of decadent desserts such as a tropical meringue pavlova, crème brûlée, toffee apple & pecan pie, along with citrus yuzu notes. There’s also an earthy quality from the Springbank dunnage warehouses.

Finish: The earthy quality now comes to the fore and the dram ends on a dry note. Both are more pronounced once water is added.
